Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance

Release Date: November 22nd, 2016

Synopsis:

You know the old adage “if you love something, set it free?"

It's the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

The dumbest thing I've ever done.

I loved her. I lost her. Hell, I let her go. And then spent five miserable years without her.

To cope with the loss, I put pen to paper and wrote her a love story, knowing when she was ready she’d hear the words I couldn’t say all those years ago.

Turned out, not only would she hear them, but when Hollywood came calling, I made sure she got the lead role. After all, no one else could portray the character whom she’d inspired.
Now she's within arms' reach and finally, she'll know the truth in my heart.

Because that other cliché, “Actions speak louder than words?”
I’m going to prove it.
My words may have brought Ava Banks back into my life; I have to be enough to make her stay.

Excerpt:
The air around us was silent save for the crickets chirping off in the distance. The cool Cincinnati breeze nipped at my skin while I waited for his reaction. When I’d started writing this novel, it had been an ode to my past love. My past life. But then it’d taken on a life of its own and become so much more. Which had made it that much more poignant. That much harder to fathom the one word that’d been haunting me for years.
Goodbye.
At long last, he turned to the final page and sucked in a breath. My stomach twisted in knots because he was about to read the end. And I didn’t know how he’d interpret it. Half scared he’d tell me that I’d lost my mind and no one would ever want to read this story, especially with that ending.
He didn’t make me wait long. As his head slowly rose, I was taken aback at the tears shining in his usually cheerful eyes. This man, who had always been like a second father to me, had been reduced to tears by my words. My words. Words we both knew for whom they were meant. And, instead of calling me a fool or attempting to kill me, he watched me with tearful appreciation, switching between nodding and shaking his head as if trying to process it all.
I didn’t know how to react, so I simply stared at him, waiting for him to say something. Anything.
He closed the manuscript and set it on the table in front of us before taking a long swig from his whiskey glass. I followed suit and enjoyed the smoky burn that did little to soothe my nerves.
“Jesus Christ,” he muttered, his eyes locking in on mine. “Tucker. You did it. You fucking did it,” he whispered, seemingly unashamed of his emotional display.
I nodded, the same emotion welling up inside me when I remembered the ending of my first novel. So many love stories begin with the girl who got away. Mine wasn’t any different. Not only in my novel, but in real life as well. Ava Banks was, and always would be, that girl for me. But, instead of slipping through my fingers, she’d made the conscious decision to leave. And, like most dumbass men, I’d let her. Hell, I’d pushed her away. I’d regretted it ever since.
But, now, I was hoping like hell I could get the second chance Trevor did. Hoping like hell my story would turn out differently than his. But, either way, I was putting myself out there, as terrifying as that was. She finally, finally would hear the words I couldn’t say all those years ago.
Now, I just had to wait to see what she’d do about it.

Tessa Teevan is a twenty-something book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are who she spends her time rooting for. They currently reside just outside of Dayton, OH with two adorably grumpy cats.

My Review:
I love Tessa Teevan and her books so I was quite happy when I got the chance to read and review Words I Couldn't Say. And I wasn't disappointed. I've been in a book rut lately, reading books that were ok or good but not great. And I was really hoping that Tessa Teevan will take me out of the funk with an incredible story. And she delivered as always. She caught me from the very first sentence and nearly made me cry even though I was in public (that doesn't happen to me very often) and by the end of the prologue my head was spinning from the unexpected twist. Though I probably should've expected that if I was more careful in reading the synopsis :D

In it's basics this is a second chance romance. But it is so different than everything else I've read on the same topic. It is heartbreaking and at the same time so very romantic. The beginning of the book was a little bit too melodramatic for my tastes but considering it was retelling of the characters' story during their teenage years, it was kind of understandable. And I would assume that everyone who goes through such a tragedy will be at least a little bit unreasonable. Though, I didn't specifically agree or like Ava from those flashbacks, in a way I did understand her. Though I still think she could've handled the situation differently. Though that probably comes with experience.

I did love Tucker though. For one thing, with his dark hair and baby blues, he is definitely a heart-throb. I only need to imagine him repairing something shirtless and with his toolbelt haning low on his hips, and I start drooling :D But he is also strong, responsible, romantic and pretty much everything else you can think of, that can make him the perfect boyfriend and man. And what he did, to show his love for Ava is definitely swoon worthy ;)

So, in a few words, this is an incredible second chance story that you should definitely check out. It is heartbreaking and sweet and so romantic :) And if nothing else, you should check it out because of Tucker :D So get your #oneclick finger ready and pick up your copy ;)

Excerpt:
I would give this thing two drinks max before I was outie.
Nodding and saying the right things, I shook hands with the colleagues who’d known my father and accepted condolences from others. I made a mental note of the people who’d made the effort to mention his name to me, and I would write them down with the event and date as soon as I got home.
I’d worked my way through the room, as I had been taught by my dad—by the best to ever work a roomful of potential deals—when I decided I’d accomplished what I’d set out to do tonight. It was time for me to go. After setting my glass down on an empty table, I started for the door . . . until I saw her.
Just like that. She appeared in my line of sight and I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
The beautiful girl from this morning at the Starbucks on Hereford Street.
I knew it was her because how could anyone forget those sexy boots? Her blonde hair wasn’t down like it had been this morning, though. She’d pulled it back into a sleek ponytail . . . but she was serving at this event? I’d seen her go into that design studio next to Starbucks. She probably had two jobs. Industrious . . . beautiful . . . sexy.
I quickly returned for my half-empty glass and snatched it up from the table. I suddenly felt like an appetizer or two.
She saw me approaching and moved closer with her tray. “What are these called?” I asked without sparing her tray a second glance. Bad move on my part, but I was too busy taking in her golden eyes and hair, and everything else I could now see up close. Perfect skin, dark lashes that framed spectacular eyes, and a scar along the hairline of the right side of her face. Something had hurt her at some point in the past, and I found it utterly insane that I was disturbed by it.
She rolled her pink lips together as if she was trying to suppress laughter. “Well, they’ve told me it’s something called a . . . meatball. Very unusual gourmet creation. You should try one. They’re said to be quite delicious.”
That voice of hers was . . . fucking beautiful.
“Okay.” I picked up a meatball and popped it in my mouth. Didn’t taste a thing. I could have been chewing slaughterhouse by-products and I wouldn’t have known. My brain had shut off everything except her beautiful voice.
“You are either messing with me or that blow to your head must have been devastating. I would wager you’ve had a meatball before.”
“I am.”
She lost her smile. “You are messing with me?”
“No, I am devastating—I mean devastated—by the blow to my head.” What in the mother fuck was I even saying to this girl? I sounded like Rain Man minus the IQ. I needed to stop talking.
“I’m sorry to hear that. It looks painful.”
“It doesn’t hurt me now.” I think I smiled and shook my head but couldn’t be sure. Just call me the village idiot because I knew I was acting like one. I did love the sound of her voice, though.
“Another rare and precious meatball?” She offered her tray and studied me this time. She had to be disgusted by my appearance and turned off by my behavior, but she didn’t show it if she was.
“Yes, please.” I took another meatball but I didn’t eat it. “You are British.”
“You are American,” she said with a fast wink, before turning away to serve other guests.
I watched her walk away from me and felt the pounding of my heart vibrating throughout my entire body.
Something had just happened to me.
I wasn’t completely sure what exactly, but I was crystal clear on the reason.
Her.

My Review:
Raine Miller is not a new author to me . I've read the original Blackstone books when they came out and I liked them so I was enthusiastic to read this latest book of hers. Unfortunately, I am a little bit torn in reviewing it. On one hand, I did like the idea of the story. I got invested in the characters and I am definitely interested in finding out what will happen with the secondary characters in the following books of the series. On the other hand, the story was at the same time too rushed and very slow. I am not sure whether that makes sense but I will explain it later. So this one is a tough call for me, especially because I love Raine Miller. But it was simply not my type of writing.

So let me explain what I meant by the story being too rushed and at the same time too slow. On one hand, Caleb and Brooke fell in love from first sight. Which will be ok if it didn't change Caleb so drastically. In the span of a few seconds he changed from being the ultimate playboy alpha male to a mellow kind of a puppy kind of guy. And somehow that didn't exactly sit well with me. I simply don't see him that way and for me it was kind of unbelievable. On the other hand the story felt too slow due to a lot of descriptions about the environment, surroundings, feelings, etc. Even the dialogues were kind of difficult at times. They just felt too explanatory.

With all that aside, I still think it is a book worth checking out. All in all, it just wasn't my type of writing but you might actually like it. So give it a chance. Pick a copy and let us know what you think of it :)

Excerpt:

Capital Vices. Cardinal Sins. Which one is the worst? Is it pride, greed, or lust? Maybe it’s envy, gluttony, or even wrath. As for sloth? What does that actually mean?

I guess we’ve all been guilty of these sins but no more than the man I have been watching for years. I know every thing he does. I know the time he leaves his house each morning. I know the speed he drives his car to work, the exact moment he will turn on the indicator when he makes that right turn into the parking lot.

I know the friends he meets with a slap to the back, a high five, or shoulder bump. I know the women that fawn over him. He, they, made me feel sick to my stomach.

They don’t know me; I doubt they’ve ever noticed me. They will, though, soon. I’ve waited a long time for this, a long time to turn his comfortable life on its head, to destroy him.

****

My palms sweated as I walked the stone floor corridor. My footsteps echoed, and in my head I could hear my heart beat a frantic rhythm. I took a few deep breaths as I reached the double oak doors, intricately carved with figures. I was thankful that the hand I reached out to turn the large brass handle was steady. My other hand held a revolver down beside my thigh. I wasn’t sure what I was going to be faced with when I gently turned the handle and slowly pushed the door open. It creaked as the old rusting hinges protested, reminding me of a scary movie.

Sunlight blazed into the empty room through a broken glass window. It picked out every speck of dust that floated around. Immediately, my senses were assaulted by a metallic tang, it filled my nostrils and coated my taste buds as I took a breath in through my mouth. Then I saw her.

Against the back wall was my missing girl. Crucified.

My stomach lurched; I swallowed down the bile that rose to burn my throat. I closed my eyes briefly. Casey Long: blonde-haired, cheerleader, straight A student, naked and covered in blood, was tied to a cross against the back wall.

“Fuck!” I whispered. “Fuck!”

For five days I’d been searching for her after her mother had called in a missing person’s report. Five days of having no idea she was practically on my doorstep. I holstered my gun and made a call.

“Dean, she’s in here,” I said.

I took care to retreat only in the places I had already stepped. Making sure not to further disturb any forensic evidence, until I made my way back out of the room and gently closed the door behind me. There was no need to check for signs of life; Casey was very clearly dead.

Within seconds, the corridor was filled with activity. Dean, my partner for the past five years, strode toward me. His size ten feet clomped on the polished floor.

“Is it definitely her?” he asked. I nodded.

“Dead?” Again, I nodded.

“Fuck!” He echoed my sentiments.

“Detective?” I turned toward the voice behind me.

“Samuel, I think you best step outside,” I said to the caretaker of Montfort High School.

No matter how many times I’d told him to call me by my name, he never did. Samuel was an old guy; he’d been the caretaker when I’d been a student at Montfort some years ago. He was as old as the school back then.

I watched as he nodded and backed down the corridor, wringing his hands together. I imagined the sight of what he’d discovered on his morning rounds would finish him where working at the school was concerned. How do you recover from seeing something like that? It was bad enough for me and Dean, and we’d seen our fair share of murder.

“I’ve called in the doc, she’s on her way,” Dean said.

“Okay, we need to seal this off, close this wing down. You want to call it in?”

Dean fished his mobile from his pocket and called through to the station. As he walked a little way down the corridor for a better reception, I took a deep breath, I knew at some point that day I’d be delivering the worst news possible to the parent of a missing child.

I’d always wanted to be a cop, ever since receiving a costume for Halloween one year. Despite growing out of it, I’d kept that badge for years. I loved my job, normally. I just hated knowing what I would have to do soon. I could send someone else, but I’d grown up in this town, I knew most of its occupants, and I wanted to be the one to break the news to Sally Long.

I scrubbed my hand over my face, feeling the two-day-old stubble around my jaw. Dean would take a statement from Samuel while I waited for Doc, or Eddie, as she was called.

Our state medical examiner had, only a few hours prior, been naked in my bed after we'd spent the night fucking. Neither of us had gotten any sleep, but I knew, as soon as she arrived, there would be no evidence of that.

Hi Tracey and welcome to Living in Our Own Story :) Thanks a lot for sparing the time to answer a few questions for us and our readers.

LIOS: Most of our readers probably already know you as you are one of our favorite authors. But just in case you are new to them, tell us something fun about yourself.
Tracey: That’s a lovely thing for you to say, thank you. Something fun? Mmm, I’m a scuba diving instructor, although I don’t get time to teach right now. I have an obsession with Jaffa Cakes and I won’t share them!

LIOS: Most of the books you’ve written, are suspenseful and fast paced romances that keep the readers on their toes. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Tracey: Life, and a very active imagination mainly. When I start to write I don’t always know exactly where the story is going, or even what genre it will end up as. There may be a twist in the plot, or something the character said in my mind that will turn the book completely on its head. I guess I get inspiration from the story itself and the characters I’ve created.

LIOS: We know that choosing your favorite character and book is probably like choosing a favorite child, but still who is your favorite character and book you’ve written so far? And if you are able to choose one, tell us why ;)
Tracey: Hand on heart, Robert Stone from the Fallen Angel Series will always own a piece of me. When I wrote the series I wasn’t that long out of hospital and I put my all into those stories. Robert kept me company during some dark times, so for that reason, he’ll always be my favourite.

LIOS: Your book covers are always incredible. How do you choose the models for them and what makes you pick a specific one?
Tracey: Choosing the right cover models is a really tricky task. I spend hours going through portfolios, looking at half naked…. No, I mean, studying composition, placement….erm, ha ha. In all seriousness, its tough to find the model that best represents the character and it has been known for me to alter the description in the book to suit the model. I work with two photographers whom I trust and are my go-to when I need a model. I’ll message and ask if they have a, brown eyed, brown hair, for example. I will study the portfolio because I’m not just looking for the right model; I’m looking for the right pose, the right background. My covers usually represent a scene in the book, so you don’t just get a model, you get something that you’ll later understand when you read the story.

LIOS: Most of our readers probably know you from your Fallen Angel series. How is Deadly Sin different from it?
Tracey: A Deadly Sin is my second thriller and although the Fallen Angel series is romantic suspense, the emphasis is on the romance. A Deadly Sin features a character we first met in Gabriel, another thriller, although the book is a standalone. I love to read all genres, so it made sense that, at some point, I’d dabble in different genres too. I’ve loved writing Deadly; it’s a lot darker than Gabriel and poles apart from the Fallen Angel series.

LIOS: What in your opinion will attract your Fallen Angel fans to Deadly Sin?
Tracey: I’m not so sure that readers stick exclusively to one genre. I think we have a favourite, for sure. I’m hoping that readers of my series will not only like the story, but my style of writing. The content may change, but my style will always be the same. I’m also hoping that I’ll attract new readers to Deadly who may want a little light, sexy relief after and pop on over to the series.

LIOS: What should we expect from you in the foreseeable future?
Tracey: I have put The Fallen Angel series into a box set for a limited time offer and I hate to say this, but those characters have started chattering away again. However, I have to concentrate on my third thriller (yet to be named), another standalone but connected to Gabriel and Deadly. I have four projects waiting on completion and I think my promise of only three books next year might go out the window! So, next ‘book’ out will be the box set in December, then we will see more from Gabriel and Mich end of March next year.

LIOS: Thank you Tracie for spending some time with us and answering our questions :) We
<3 :="" br="" you=""> Tracey: Thank you for having me, and for your continued support. I really do appreciate it <3 div="">

About the Author:
TraciePodger
Tracie Podger currently lives in Kent, UK with her husband and a rather obnoxious cat called George. She’s a Padi Scuba Diving Instructor with a passion for writing. Tracie has been fortunate to have dived some of the wonderful oceans of the world where she can indulge in another hobby, underwater photography. She likes getting up close and personal with sharks.
Tracie likes to write in different genres. Her Fallen Angel series and its accompanying books are mafia romance and full of suspense. A Virtual Affair is contemporary romance, and Gabriel and A Deadly Sin are thriller/suspense. The Facilitator is erotic romance.

My Review:
If you've read Tracie Podger before, you know that she has the uncanny ability to weave stories that will keep you up at night, wondering what happens next. And probably pay extra attention to the dark corners just to make sure that nothing unexpected is going to jump out from them. Well, this story doesn't disappoint. It will catch you from the very beginning and make your head spin until the very end. Probably even after that. And don't be surprised if you find yourself sleeping with one eye open ;)

The truth is, I am not really sure how to review the book. My head is still spinning from this heart-stopping thriller. One of the things I really enjoyed about the plot is that it is unpredictable. No matter what you think will happen, you should expect that there is something else around the corner. I loved Mich and Eddie and their seemingly casual relationship. They are both intriguing, brooding and carry secrets that can destroy them. And unfortunately, the gruesome murders are entwined with their past, present and will leave deep scars into their future.

The idea of using the seven deadly sins as a backdrop in the story is simply genius. But then, what else can you expect from Tracie Podger :D Those of you who've read her before, know that she is one of the very few authors that will keep you on the edge of your seat and never let you down. And if you haven't read her yet, that's a huge miss on your part. So get your #oneclick finger ready and pick up your copy :)

EXCERPT:
smoothed his tangled hair back from his brow, and gentle warmth swelled inside me. Perhaps the bond was not completed, but I could feel it now. And it was time for me to do something about it.
I took off my boots and settled on the bed with him. After a moment, he stirred, and his eyes opened.
He sat up, startled to see me leaning over him, and then stared at my face. “Your eyes,” he murmured. “What have you done?”
“What I knew had to be done. Anything else wouldn’t have been fair to either of us.”
“But—”
I laid a finger on his lips and then moved forward and put my arms around him. It was like embracing a sun-warmed statue. There was nothing soft about him but his skin and hair. I ran my hands over his muscled back through his tunic, eagerly mapping the contours of his body with my fingertips. He shuddered, his eyes hooding again, but held himself still, as if wary of frightening me off. I reassured him the best way I could think of, leaning up and pressing my lips to his.
He caught me in his arms, pulling me against him hungrily. The kiss ignited suddenly as we clung to each other, intensifying until my lips stung, stealing our breaths until we finally had to lean back from each other just to catch them.
“I… do not wish to hurt you,” he murmured. I could feel his muscles tighten with restrained strength as he held me.
I smiled. “You’ve bled for me twice, Dekkir,” I purred as I ran the back of my hand down his cheek. “I’m not worried about you hurting me in any way I wouldn’t like.”

She has a handsome prince of a husband, two brilliant sons, and two bouncy Italian Greyhounds to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. Her sons know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any, thank God! Raine loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books. And then my assistant accidentally mailed it.

Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye.

When he showed up out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear of him. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding. I should have never let him kiss me.

But I didn’t.

About the Author:
dsc_0087
New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled). She is currently finishing up Sweet Cheeks a standalone novel out November 14th

Her plans for 2017 include a sports romance duet (2 books: The Player, The Catch) and the Everyday Heroes series (3 books: Cuffed, Combust, and Cockpit). She’s also writing a novella for the 1,001 Dark Night series that will be out in February 2017.

She loves to hear from her readers so make sure you check her out on social media.

My Review:
OK. So this one is kind of tricky to write :D I wasn't a big fan of K. Bromberg's writing after I read Driven. Yes, I know how many people love the series but it wasn't exactly for me. But I met her at a signing during the summer and I really liked her as a person so I decided to try and read something else written by her. So when I got the chance to read Sweet Cheeks, I was quite happy :D And guess what? I loved the story, the writing, the characters. There was just something about this story that pulled me in from the very start. It was funny and heartbreaking, romantic and HOT. And it doesn't hurt that Hayes is an eye candy :D But as a whole, this is an incredible story of second chances, forgiveness and realising what really matters in life.

As I said above, Hayes is seriously hot but apart from that, I loved him as a character. He is willing to fight for the things that matter to him. And one of those things is Saylor. His first love, the girl he left behind when he went to chase his dreams, the one woman he compares everyone else to. So it is not a surprise that when she needs help, he is more than willing to give his best. And he will do everything he can to bring back the carefree girl he knew 10 years ago. And in the midst of a tropical paradise, they Saylor and Hayes discover each other again, rekindle the love they felt as teenagers and build it to something even stronger, something timeless.

One of the things I most enjoyed in the book is the banter between Saylor and Hayes. It was so much fun to read :D And let me tell you, Saylor has a really incredible rendition of Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer. That seriously cracked me up :D I am laughing right now, remembering it :D And the way that Hayes can bring her temper is so much fun :D Only by their sparring you can recognise the chemistry between them :) So yeah, it is not a surprise that they burn the sheets together. I can honestly say that I would never look at baking cupcakes quite the same way after this book. And I never though that flour, sugar and counter tops can be so erotic :D

So, my recommendation is, you should read this story. It is run, romantic and definitely HOT. The perfect read for a relaxing winter night at home :) And I can guarantee that Hayes will keep you warm at night :) So get your #oneclick finger working and pick your copy ASAP ;)
