Release Date: February 2nd, 2016

Synopsis

The USA TODAY bestselling author of the Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water series makes her suspense debut with this sexy, heartpounding story of a young woman determined to find justice after her best friend’s death, a story pulsing with the “intense, hot, emotional” (Colleen Hoover) writing that exhilarates her legions of fans.

A woman who almost had it all . . .

On the surface, Celine Gonzalez had everything a twenty-eight-year-old woman could want: a one-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, a job that (mostly) paid the bills, and an acceptance letter to the prestigious Hollingsworth Institute of Art, where she would finally live out her dream of becoming an antiques appraiser for a major auction house. All she had worked so hard to achieve was finally within her reach. So why would she kill herself?

A man who was supposed to be her salvation . . .

Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s belongings after a suicide that has left everyone stunned. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed a lethal cocktail of pills and vodka, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers a scandalous photograph in a lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions.

Questions about the man Celine fell in love with. The man she never told anyone about, not even Maggie. The man Celine believed would change her life.

Until he became her ruin.

On the hunt for evidence that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer. A killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

My Review:
That's the first book I read by K.A, Tucker and I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. I am usually more into romantic suspense, whereas this one is pure criminal suspense but I still enjoyed reading it. It was intriguing and it kept me on my toes all of the time. There were so many twists and turns that I can honestly say that until the end I wasn't sure how things will end. And in my opinion that's what defines a great suspenseful story.

Maggie is an intriguing character. She is strong, independent and ready to do everything for her friends. At the same time, she believes in justice and helping the more unfortunate than her people in every way she can. And running her own charitable organization and taking a hands on approach portrays her as quite selfless character and at the same time quite likeable. One of the things I liked the most about her though is that she trusts her gut. She doesn't believe that her friend committed a suicide and she is ready to do whatever it takes to prove it. Even if on the way she discovers secrets that can cut her heart to shreds and even cost her her own life.

The story in itself is quite fascinating and fast paced. You would never be able to guess all the twists and turns in it and you will be constantly kept on your toes.

So to say in a few words, the story is intriguing and fast paced. If you are into suspense you would definitely like but keep in mind that this is not a romance. With that being said, if you are looking for a sitting on the edge of your seat kind of read, that's definitely your book. Trust me, you won't regret it ;)
